Scholz begins 5th season Dan Scholz begins his fourth season as head coach at New Richmond with one of Southwest Ohio's top coaching staffs. Offensive coordinator Chuck Warden and varsity assistant Pat Fagan are former high school head coaches. Warden, a member of the New Richmond Lions Sports Hall of Fame, is a former head coach at Loveland and Fagan a former head coach at Milford. The 7th grade foundation level of the NR football program has New Richmond and Ohio High School Football Coaches Association hall of fame coach Ron Bird at the helm. "Our coaching staff is made up of a majority of New Richmond High School graduates, who are also life long members of the New Richmond community," noted Scholz. Warden begins his 5th year as offensive coordinator. "Chuck is a tireless worker with meticulous preparation. He understands, and is a master at communicating with high school people," said Scholz."Having been a former head coach, he gives great advice on how to run the program." "I wanted to get into the New Richmond system because that's where my daughters go to school and I would like for them to go to the games on Friday night with their classmates," explained Fagan. "And I want to contribute to the community, being a New Richmond resident." Joining the staff this year is Joe Piening, a New Richmond district resident who most recently has been an assistant coach at Walnut Hills. Rick Mahan moves up from the 8th grade head coaching job and doubles as the freshman head coach and varsity assistant. Rick, a special education intervention specialist at the high school, is a former college football official. Kyle Schnee returns as and assistant varsity and freshman coach. Kyle has a BS in aerospace engineering from The Ohio State University and is currently pursuing his teaching certificate in Ohio and hopes to teach and coach at the high school level. Tim Dunn returns as a volunteer assistant as does Buddy Stark, who serves as a sideline coach during games and doubles as the team's film coordinator. The South Western Ohio Football Coaches Association Stark as the 2010Doc Collins Award winner. The award is to recognize a Southwestern District assistant coach who makes an invaluable impact on a high school football program. "Coach Stark is well deserved recipient for all he does for the Lions football players," said coach Scholz. Ben Bird, a member of the New Richmond board of education and a former head coach at Clermont Northeastern, volunteers as a Friday night assistant. Dan Sweet returns as a video assistant. It all adds up to one of the top coaching staffs in Southwestern Ohio. Scholz came to New Richmond from Colerain High School, where he coached from 2000 - 2007 on Kerry Coombs' staff. His duties included head strength coach for all 8 years and was special teams co-coordinator for four seasons. Prior to joining Colerain, Scholz was an assistant coach at Dublin Scioto High School, one of the Columbus area's top programs, from 1995 -2000. He served as the team head strength coach and was the defensive coordinator for the 1998 and 1999 seasons. He began his teaching and coaching careers at Rocky River High School near Cleveland where he coached freshman football and served as an assistant stength coach. A 1986 Greenhills High School graduate, Scholz graduated with honors from Miami University where he received BS Education, BS Health Appraisal and Enhancement degrees. He attended Indiana University for two years before transferring to Miami. Scholz, who teaches physical education at New Richmond, serves as his own strength and defensive and special teams coordinator. He and his wife, Kathy, have been married for 20 years and are the parents of Danny Jr., 18; Kevin, 16; Eric, 14; Cooper, 12; and Morgan, 9. |
