Austin Warden name McScholar Athlete

Austin Warden named McScholar Athlete

New Richmond junior Austin Warden has been selected this week's McScholar Athlete of the Week by McDonald's This Week in Football newspaper that will be available later this week at all area McDonald's locations.

Warden plays linebacker and offensive backfield for the Lions in football. He also plays basketball and is a pitcher/outfielder in baseball.

Warden also will be featured on McDonald's This Week in Football web page.

 

Lions defeat Williamsburg, 47-7

 

The Lions scored all their points in the first half and went on to defeat Williamsburg 47-7 Friday, Sept. 18 to run their record to 4-0.

 

Lions coach Dan Scholz went to his JV and freshmen players after the first offensive series of the second half.

 

Senior fullback Andrew Nealan scored on a 70-yard run on New Richmond's first offensive play of the game and added a 17-yard TD run on the next series while gaining 111 yards in 8 carries.

 

Senior tailback Mike Maupin had his best offensive game of the season with 106 yards in 7 carries, including a 45-yard TD run.

 

Junior quarterback Garrett Myers scored on runs of 1 and 51 yards and gained 67 yards in 5 carries. Myers, who also threw a 32-yard TD to senior receiver Brian Mazzaro, had a 52-yard TD run called back by a penalty.

 

Junior Nick Williams scored the team's' other TD on an 8-yard run as 11 different players carries the ball for the Lions.

 

Defensively, the Lions were led by Mazzaro, who had three interceptions despite playing with what was diagnosed Saturday morning as the flu, and Danny Scholz and Jeff Case with 9 tackles each. Twenty-six different players were credited with tackles or assists for New Richmond.
