Lion Golfers Hold off Broncos

The Lion Golfers traveled to White Oak Golf Course on Tuesday to play Western Brown. The Lions held off the Broncos by the score of 175-184. Leading the Lions was medalist Chris Mazzaro with a 38 and Davey "Dumpling" Ohntrup with a 44. Also scoring for the team were Evan McKinley (46), Austin Skaggs (47), Austin Wells (49) and Henry Heidlage (52). The Lions next travel to Elks Run Golf Course to take on Batavia. The Lions record now stands at 23-3 on the season.

Lion Golfers Break the Broncos
Around 5:30 pm last night the Local Fire Department was called to the Lindale Golf Course as the local N.R.H.S. golfers burned up the course. The team shot a red hot 142 to Western Browns 178. All 6 golfers for the Lions shot under 40 with two players shooting under par as the team shot a 2 over par for the round. This I am sure has got to be a record. Leading the Lions were co-medalists Evan McKinley and Henry Heidlage with one under 34's. Also playing and scoring well for the Lion Linksters were Chris Mazzaro (36), Kyle Heidlage (38), Austin Wells and Austin Skaggs (39's). The Lions tee it up against the same Bronco team next Tuesday at White Oak Golf Course starting at 4:00. The Lions record now stands on the season 22-3.

Lion Golfers Tame the Tigers
The Lion Linksters held off a determined Bethel team for a 172-173 victory at Friendly Meadows golf course on Tuesday afternoon. The Lions were led by Evan McKinley with a 41 and Austin Wells and Austin Skaggs with 43's. Austin Skaggs made a 5 foot double breaker to seal the win for the Lions. Also scoring for the Lions were Henry Heidlage (45), Chris Mazzaro (46), and Kyle Heidlage (49). The Lions tee it up at their home course, Lindale Golf Club, Thursday against Western Brown. The Lions record now stands at 21-3 on the season.

N.R.H.S. Golfers Sweep Tri-Match
The Lion Linksters kept up their fast start as they defeated Batavia and C.N.E. at Lindale Golf Course on Monday. New Richmond shot a solid 170 to lead the way. Batavia finished a close second by shooting a 179 and C.N.E. rounded out the scoring with a 189.Leading the Lions in scoring was Co-Medalist freshman Kyle Heidlage with a 39. Close behind was junior Davey "Dumpling" Ohntrup with a 42. Also scoring and playing well for the Lions were freshman Bryce Kroeger (43), Junior Erik Hermann (46), Freshman Daman Abner (50), and Junior Matt Rydzewski (54). The victory pushes the team's record on the season to 20-3.

Lion Golfers Hit the Links With a Mighty
Roar The 2011 Lions golf team has gotten off to a fast and furious start this season. They have gotten off to an 18-3 record to begin the season. The team has played 72 holes so far this season and their average score for 9 holes is 163 which comes out to each man averaging 40.7 which is OUTSTANDING.

S.B.A.A.C. All-League Invitational @ Cedar Trace

The Lions were matched up with 5 other teams ( Bethel, Blanchester, C.N.E.,Goshen, and Western Brown) from the S.B.A.A.C. League. The Lions shot a 332 and beat second place Blanchester by 19 strokes. Leading the Lions in scoring was Co-Medalist Freshman Chris mazzaro with a 76. Also scoring well were Juniors Evan McKinley and Henry Heidlage with 85's. Junior Austin Wells shot an 86 and Senior Austin Skaggs and Junior David Ohntrup shot 91's. (Record 5-0).

Batavia/Maderia Invitational @ The Vineyard

The Lions played against some of the best talent in the city and matched up very well. The Lions placed fourth in a very strong field. The winners of the event were Indian Hill and Mariemont with 317's and third place was Taylor with a 318. The Lions came in 2 strokes from being in first place with a 319. Leading the Lions in scoring was Chris Mazzaro and Evan McKinley with 78's. Autin Wells (81), Freshman Kyle Heidlage (82), Henry Heidlage (84), and Austin Skaggs (89). (Record 11-3)

Bethel Invitational @ Friendly Meadows Golf Course

The Lions were matched up again with teams from the S.B.A.A.C. in the inagural Bethel Invitational. The field included Amelia, Batavia, Bethel, C.N.E.,Goshen and Western Brown. The Lions shot just well enough to beat second place Amelia 335-343 to win the tournament. Leading the Lions were Medalist Chris Mazzaro (76), 4th Medalist Evan McKinley (80), 6th Meadalist Austin Wells (87), Henry Heidlage (92), Austin Skaggs (95), and Junior Matt Rydzewski 102. (Record 17-3)

Bethel Dual Match @ Lindale Golf Course

The Lion Golfers were matched up againt league foe Bethel for the first dual match of the season. It was a slugfest right from the get go. The Lions held on to prevail 319-321. Both teams shot very well, but the home course advantage helped the Lions come out with the victory. Leading the Lions in scoring was Evan McKinley (77), Chris Mazzaro (80), Austin Wells and David Ohntrup (81's), Henry Heidlage and Kyle Heidlage (82's). (Record 18-3)

   

 
 

 

Phil Heflin is a physical education teacher at New Richmond Middle School where he also coaches Phil Heflin7th grade basketball. A graduate of Carrollton High School, Heflin received his BS in physical education from the University of Akron and his masters in sports administration from Xavier University. He also has coached JV baseball, JV volleyball and 8th grade football. He and his wife Lisa are the parents of Chase and Cade Heflin.

"I am looking forward to working with the golf team this season. The team will be very young, so the younger players will gain a lot of experience. I feel this will bode well for the future of New Richmond Golf," said Heflin. "It has been a successful program in the past and I am looking forward to building upon that success."

 

Justin Fender

New Richmond is the home of Justin Fender, the 2001 Ohio High School Division II golf champion. Justin shot rounds of 70 and 67 for a 7-under-par total of 137 on Ohio State's Scarlet Course to win overall medalist by 6 strokes. He played college golf at Xavier University.
