Michelle Sweet named Sportswoman of year

New Richmond senior Michelle Sweet was voted Clermont County Sportswoman of the Year for the 2008-09 school year in an online poll conducted by the Community Press Newspapers.

Sweet was captain of New Richmond's girls soccer, basketball and softball teams and pitched the Lady Lions to a Division II sectional softball title.

Sweet scored 10 goals and had four assists in her soccer season that was shortened by an injury.

Sweet finished at 16-3 with a 0.66 ERA and 131 strike outs in leading the Lady Lions to the sectional title.

Sweet, who was fifth in her class, will attend Ohio Northern University where she plans to study to become a pharmacist.

She is the daughter of Patty Everett and Danny Sweet.

Lady Lions softball coach Julie Mihalik

Julie Mihalik won a Division II sectional title in her first year as coach of the Lady Lions softball team. However, the highlight of her first year was an 11-1 win over then state No. 1 ranked Western Brown. Julie teaches American and Advanced History at New Richmnd HIgh School. An outstanding athlete in high school at Hillsboro, Julie played college soccer at Shawnee State. She also serves as an assistant varsity and JV girls soccer coach at New Richmond.
