Reminder for inclement weather, calamity days protocols

With the first blast of winter in the forecast, it seems an appropriate time to remind our families about New Richmond Exempted Village School District protocols for calamity days and after school activities/athletics.
In the event schools are closed due to a calamity day, the following guidelines should be followed:
  • There will be no practices, games or performances at the elementary or middle school level. The only exception would be tournament contests or performances. These may proceed as scheduled if weather conditions allow for safe travel for spectators and students both on the roads and in our parking lots (per C.O. approval).
  • There will be no practices or stand-alone games at the freshmen or JV level. Freshmen and JV games that are part of a high school tripleheader may take place IF the Varsity level contest will also be played as scheduled and travel is safe for spectators and students to attend both on the roads and in our parking lots.
  • Only varsity teams may have voluntary practices.
  • No varsity practices should be held until after 12:00 PM. This time would be contingent on the weather conditions at that time and the forecast for the time when students would be returning home. Varsity coaches and athletic directors are responsible for monitoring the weather and insuring student athletes can safely travel to and from a practice or a game.

In the event schools are released early due to an impending winter storm or some other calamity, the following guidelines should be followed:
  • All after school activities will be cancelled.
  • Should the weather clear later in the day and conditions are safe for travel, only high school practices and competitions may resume with the approval of the Athletic Director/Principal.
  • Decisions about games will be made in collaboration with both schools athletic directors and principals.
  • Luke Cox will be the CO contact for questions regarding safety of parking lots/sidewalks.
