NREVSD Transitional Update - March 8

To NREVSD Staff and Parents:

The NREVSD Admin Team met again this week.   The following were decided or discussed. 

1. NRHS, NRMS, and LCE Secretaries will remain the same.   Sally Wylie will become the secretary at Monroe Elementary.
2. We are still in the process of notifying those teachers whose position will be eliminated.    The BOE approved resolutions that eliminated a total of 20 teaching positions.  Of those 20, 5 positions are already accounted for with retirement, consolidation, and transfers to newly created Reading Specialist positions.
3. The list of County employed aides that work at NREVSD will be reduced by 15.
4. The Principals will gather on March 14 to decide on how to staff the new NRMS, new Monroe, and new LCE with teachers and aides.  It is possible that teachers and aides will not be working in their current assignment or in their current building.  If you have not returned your survey indicating your preferred assignment and your preferred building, please complete that this week. 
5. We will have a district wide PTO meeting for parents in grades P-5 at Monroe Elementary on March 14 at 4pm.   I will be in attendance as well.   All interested parents and teachers are welcome to attend as we discuss transition into the 2019-20 school year.
6. I have asked former NREVSD teacher and librarian Betsy Groen to facilitate a meeting between Library Aides to consolidate the libraries.  That meeting will take place on March 13, 2019 at 9:30am at the NRE Library.
7. We continue to have conversations about changes to the current NRE building in order to convert it to a middle school.  There will not be many changes necessary.  The biggest change is to take down 3 different walls to create locker bays for students.   We will have a different locker bay for each grade level.   These spaces for lockers will be used in spaces currently used as classrooms.
8. In addition to the current K and 6 grade graduations, we will add a 5th grade ceremony as well for spring of 2019.  The American Legion has agreed to give a 5th grade American Legion award this year and in the future.   This year will be the last time an American Legion award will be give to a 6th grader.
9. The Admin Team meeting on March 21 will be dedicated to the topic of the physical move of furniture, curriculum supplies, and equipment.
10. The PBIS planning process for next year will halt until staffing decisions for next year are made.  Once staffing decisions are made, the PBIS planning will resume.
11. Camp Joy next year will go forward as recommended.   Next year's 6th grade will go in December and next year's 5th grade will go in April 2020.
