Superintendent Tracey Miller and the Board of Education honored Betsy Groen by presenting her with a Pride of the Lion Award.

Mrs. Groen was nominated for the award for her spirit of giving. In the 2018-2019 school year, Mrs. Groen volunteered countless hours helping the New Richmond Elementary School catalog over 2,000 books.

Then in March of last year, she was asked by former Superintendent Adam Bird to take on the monumental task of being in charge of closing the New Richmond Elementary School library and assisting the other four schools with the consolidation process.

It was hot, dirty work, Superintendent Miller noted. But, Mrs. Groen accepted the task and was quoted as saying: “The district gave me 35 years. The least I can do is give six months,” he added.

Mrs. Groen retired from New Richmond after 35 years - 22 years at Monroe as a librarian and 13 years at Locust Corner as a kindergarten teacher.
