PARCC testing schedule announced

During the weeks of February 16th and February 23rd, New Richmond High School will be administering the new PARCC Performance Based Assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics to all students in 9th grade.  During the week of March 16th we will be administering the Ohio Graduation Tests to all 10th graders as well as any 11th or 12th grade students that have yet to pass one or more sections of the test

These tests are very important and have significance not only for individual students, but also for New Richmond High School. Students in 9th grade must now accumulate points associated with their performance on these end-of-course exams in order to graduate (please see attached sheet from the Ohio Dept. of Education). Students in grades 10th – 12th grade must pass all sections of the Ohio Graduation Tests in order to graduate. Student performance will also be reflected on the building and district report card that is mailed to all parents by the State of Ohio, as required by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act and No Child Left Behind.

With this information in mind, NRHS has taken steps to promote success for all students. We have developed a testing window in the morning.  Students who are testing must report to school at the regular time; all other students will function on the delay schedule for that particular day. Since the time frame for PARCC assessments differs we have implemented a 60-minute (report time: 8:40am) and 90-minute (report time: 9:10am) delay schedule to add to the 2-hour delay schedule (report time: 9:40am) used during inclement weather.  If you can provide alternate transportation for your child, he/she may follow the delay schedule on the days indicated below BUT ONLY IF THEY ARE NOT TESTING.  If your child must be dropped off or ride the bus at the regular time, he/she will report to the cafeteria for a supervised activity.

ALL 9th GRADE STUDENTS MUST REPORT AT THE REGULAR TIME ON THE FOLLOWING DATES.  ALL OTHER STUDENTS MAY FOLLOW THE DELAY SCHEDULE:

Wednesday February 18         PARCC Math             90 Minute Delay Schedule

Thursday February 19             PARCC Math             90 Minute Delay Schedule

A child’s attitude about a test can have a definite effect on the outcome of that test.  Help your child to do his/her best by talking about testing in a positive manner.  We see evidence on a daily basis of your wonderful parenting skills, and really appreciate your competence.  Please take the time to make this even more of a priority during testing.  This would include the following:

            1.  A good night’s rest each evening

            2.  A nutritious breakfast packed with proteins rather than carbohydrates

            3.  No hassle morning by preparing the night before

            4.  Have them drink extra water to reduce stress and hydrate the brain

            5.  Wear comfortable clothing

            6.  Encourage your child to take his/her time on the test

            7.  Teach positive self talk such as, “I can do it!”

8.  Be here on time!  Tardy students are not admitted to the classroom once testing   begins.

We are excited about our students’ potential and look forward to working to help them prepare for college and career readiness.

Sincerely,

Mark A. Bailey
