“My Future is Bright, No Drugs or Bullies in Sight!”

Red Ribbon Week is October 27th through October 31st. It is a national celebration of talking with students and teaching them to say NO to drugs, alcohol, negative peer pressure and bullying.
Red Ribbon Week was developed in 1988 after a community in Calexico, California wore red ribbons to honor the death of a drug enforcement agent who had been killed while attempting to keep illegal drugs out of our country. His name was Kiki Camerena.
The activities for the week are:
Monday, October 27, 2014-Team Up Against Drugs Day-Wear your favorite team jersey to show your support to say NO to drugs, alcohol, negative peer pressure and bullying.
Teachers will pass out Red Ribbon Week suckers.
Students will sign their pledge forms to say No.
Teachers will return pledge forms to the office.
We will use these signed pledge forms to draw names for prizes on Tuesday through Friday.
Tuesday, October 28, 2014- “Hair’s to a Drug-Free Life” Also, known as Crazy Hair Day.
Student and Staff may wear crazy hair to show their support to say NO to drugs, alcohol, negative peer pressure and bullying.
Teachers may give students a self stick ribbon to wear.
Teachers may discuss with students how peer pressure can cause students to make unhealthy decisions for themselves.
*Students will sign the banner to make a commitment to say NO to drugs, alcohol, negative peer pressure and bullying during their lunch time.
Wednesday, October 29, 2014- Pajama Day “Follow Your Dreams, Be Drug Free” Pajamas must be school dress code appropriate. No slippers are to be worn in the hallways, lunch, recess or specials. Teachers will pass out Red Ribbon Week pencils to students.
Thursday, October 30, 2014- “Sock It To Drugs Day” Students and Staff may wear crazy socks or mismatched socks to school. Shoes must be worn to lunch, recess and specials. Students will receive a “smarties” sticker for the day.
Friday, October 31, 2014- “My Future is Bright, Drug-Free”. Students and Staff may wear their favorite college clothing or dress up in the clothing of their future career.
(All clothing must be school dress-code appropriate.) Students will receive a “smarties” candy for the day.
