The First Tee Program Comes to New Richmond this Summer

Beginning in the summer of 2018, NREVSD elementary students will have an opportunity to participate in a program known as The First Tee (TFT). Through the game of golf, TFT aims to have a positive impact on the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values, and promote healthy choices.

Since the programs inception in 1997, TFT has grown to a network of 155 chapters nationwide where over 10 million youth have been reached. In 2006, TFT made its way to the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area. Now, over 5000 local kids are participating with their chapters in Hamilton, Clermont, Boone, Campbell, and Kenton Counties - the newest chapter being at Legendary Run.

TFT is a tiered program starting with students as early as age seven. Students progress through the five levels by age and advance as they achieve the game and character goals set forth in the program.

In addition to mastering these specific personal goals, an important element of the program is the mentorship that students receive. Classes in the program are taught by TFT trained coaches and golf instruction is supplemented by PGA (Pro Golf Association) and LPGA (Ladies Pro Golf Association) professionals. By having staff and volunteers who fully support and believe in the TFT mission, positive youth development happens through these meaningful relationships. As the program states, “Kids don’t care what a coach knows, until they know a coach cares.”

Registration for the summer session will be available online on April 23. Sessions are seven weeks long and cost $50 a session - please note that scholarships are available. No previous experience is necessary and equipment will be provided by the TFT; however, students may bring their own golf clubs if they would like.

This spring, Locust Corner Elementary students began getting exposure to program through the implementation of specialized PE curriculum. Although they are the only elementary school at the moment utilizing this program curriculum, all NREVSD elementary students are invited to participate.
