Getting Libraries Reader Ready

Voluteer and staff member are busy getting Monroe Elementary School library ready for first day of school.

Throughout the New Richmond Exempted Village School District, volunteers and staff members are making final preparations for the Aug, 15 return of students.

After 35 years with the district, Betsy Groen returns as a volunteer to assist with the consolidation of school libraries. This week, she and Media Specialist Becky Walriven are hard at work organizing and stocking the shelves of the Monroe Elementary School library.

“The district gave me 35 years,” Groen said. “The least I can do is give six months.”

Over the summer months, the women packaged, cataloged, moved and reshelved about 12,000 books. Groen and Walriven said when students return to school, they will find libraries filled with books ready for them to enjoy.
