New Richmond Students and Siblings Place at Ohio VFW Scholarship Contest

This past weekend, Brock’s essay placed first at the state level, earning him a spot to compete at the national level. In addition to the success of Brock’s essay, his sister Tatem, a New Richmond High School student, placed in the Voice of Democracy contest.

Every year, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) sponsor the nationwide essay contest, The Patriot Pen, for students grades sixth through eighth. Since 1947, the VFW has been dedicated to promoting patriotism through the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program.

This year, students across the nation were asked to write a 400 word essay in response to the theme, “America’s Gift to My Generation”. Over 3,000 entries were submitted from students in the state of Ohio, one of which being from New Richmond Elementary (NRE) student, Brock Lindner.

This past weekend, Brock’s essay placed first at the state level, earning him a spot to compete at the national level. In addition to the success of Brock’s essay, his sister Tatem, a New Richmond High School student, placed in the Voice of Democracy contest.

Nearly 40,000 high school students submitted entries to The Voice of Democracy audio-essay program to win their share of $2.1 million in education scholarships. Tatem earned an 8th place finish and will be rewarded a small scholarship from the VFW.

Congratulations to the Lindner’s on their success!
