Welcome to New Richmond Lions Online
The New Richmond Lions Online (NRLO) offers a rigorous, academic experience for students who prefer to learn via an online platform vs. in-person learning during the 2020-2021 school year. Expectations include daily attendance and participation. A commitment is for a minimum of one semester. No changes will be permitted except at the semester change or building principal discretion.
The K-5 online students will use the Board of Education approved online curriculum provider Accelerate Education which is aligned to national and state standards. More information can be found at: https://accelerate.education/k-5-courses/
Middle and High School Students will use the Board of Education approved online curriculum provider APEX which is also aligned to national and state standards. More information about APEX can be found at: https://www.apexlearning.com
NRLO will be facilitated and monitored by New Richmond teachers and staff. K-5 students will experience direct instruction via videos, animation, or the online NRLO teacher. They will then engage in some guided practice before being assessed on a skill. Assessments will vary depending on the grade level and course. K-5 students will do some of their practice work in a provided Accelerate Education workbook. Students will also have an
opportunity to engage with their teacher virtually for 1:1 weekly check-ins and in small groups with other students as needed.
Students and families can request a change in enrollment back to in-person learning at the end of a semester. Students can change placement once per school year. Requests will be approved depending on space and class availability.
Families interested in returning to in-person learning at the end of the semester must communicate their request, in writing, to their child’s respective building principal, no later than 14 days prior to the end of the quarter immediately preceding the semester they want to change placement.
Students will still be required to take part in all state-mandated tests that will require coming into a school building.
Students must commit to being actively online, working on coursework, during normal school hours. The schedule for online school hours will closely follow the schedule for in-person school:
Elementary Online Class hours: begin at 9:00 AM Grades
Middle and High School Online Class hours: begin at 8:00 AM
Students will be required to meet with all of their teachers, every day online in some capacity. This could be through a class meeting, a small group conversation, one-on-one support, or other ways to connect. The schedule will vary by building and grade level.
Students not logged into school on time will be considered tardy. Students who do not log into school at all during the school day will be considered absent. Online attendance will follow the regular attendance policy and truancy will result in a referral to the principal for the development of a Truancy Improvement Plan.
After School Activities
Online students will be permitted to participate in after school activities, where possible. The only challenge will be with activities that are extensions of classes held during the school day. Contact the advisor of the activity you are interested in to be sure you can participate while on the Online Class. Online students will be responsible for their own transportation. • School-sponsored sports will be fully open to Online Class students, provided the student meets all eligibility requirements.
Online Class School Calendar
The Online Class school calendar will be the same calendar as for students enrolled in-person.
All technology use is subject to the district’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).
Each Online Class student who needs a device will receive a school device:
K-12 - Chromebooks, issued by their school to be used for all coursework if necessary. Students are free to use their own device if they prefer.
Students will be required to take care of their school-issued device while it is in their care, ensuring that it remains in the same condition it was given to them at the beginning of the school year.
Students will be required to turn their device back into their home school for inspection and collection at the end of the school year.
