Why aren't meals being offered at my location?

Federal regulations prevent school food services from offering Seamless Summer Option (SSO) meals in areas that do not qualify. The program is designed to ensure that meal benefits are targeted to areas with the greatest need. Under USDA guidelines, SSO sites must be located in areas where at least 50 percent of children are eligible for free or reduced-priced meals. This requirement ensures that federal funds are used effectively to serve low-income communities where children are at higher risk or food insecurity during school breaks. Meals cannot be offered in places that do not meet this requirement, such as within the village of New Richmond.

Operating SSO in non-qualifying areas would violate these regulations, potentially misallocate resources, and jeopardize program integrity. Compliance with these eligibility standards is necessary to maintain federal funding and to ensure equitable access to meal service for those who need them most.
