During the Board of Education’s Nov. 16 meeting, Sally Wylie and Mary Henderson were recognized as Leading Lions. Both were nominated by Monroe Elementary School Principal Jamie Kunz for going above and beyond during this year of a pandemic.
Ms. Wylie is the building secretary at Monroe and Ms. Henderson is the building’s health aide. Together, they have been champions for keeping morale high in their school.
At Monroe Elementary staff members feel valued and appreciated every day, and a lot of that is due to the efforts of these two “amazing women,” Ms. Kunz said.
“From home-sewn facial masks and positivity pills to savory and sweet fall snack mixes and even a little bit of pumpkin poop for Halloween, they go above and beyond to put a smile on the face of our staff members,” she said. “And their commitment and creativity should definitely be commended.
“I feel blessed every day to work with them, and I’m happy to see them each and every day in Monroe’s office. It’s my honor and privilege to recognize Sally Wyllie and Mary Henderson for their efforts to boost morale at Monroe and throughout the district.”
Superintendent Tracey Miller jokingly added that it’s always a good day when he visits Monroe Elementary because he returns to Central Office with a “hand full of stuff.”
“I agree with Ms. Kunz, staff morale and building morale and culture are so important for any effective organization,” he said. I know that’s a real point of emphasis at Monroe, and I recognize that. It would be easy to not do this, but you are doing it and it’s making a difference.”
