Meet February's Leading Lions

District teachers and staff going above and beyond their typical duties earned the praise of the New Richmond Board of Education during the February meeting in the form of Leading Lion recognition.

The entire food service team earned the praise of the Board and Superintendent Tracey Miller after Food Service Director Brenda Young nominated them for recognition.

Two members of the Locust Corner Elementary team, Jennifer Conrad and Letitia Wiltshire, were also celebrated after Principal Joseph Roach nominated them for recognition.

Since last March the food service department has innovated ways to get meals to students who were working remotely due to the pandemic. Team members worked outside of their usual shift in order to prepare food, pack food, and distribute food, Mrs. Young said. Their effort to provide breakfasts and lunches to district students has even involved deliveries to the homes, oftentimes with the support of the transportation department, of some families.

Superintendent Tracey Miller said that preparing and getting meals into the stomachs of NREVSD students is not just a job for the food service team. “It’s more like a mission,” he said as he and the board complimented them for their efforts and commitment.

Members of the food service team are: High School -  Cindly Leen, Eva Brewer, Tina Stiles and Alexander Ward; Middle School - Cristy Behler, Pam Senior, Rhonda Henson, and Kathy Trees; Monroe Elementary - Bonnie Caudill, Pam Williams, and Susan Hounshell; Locust Corner - Robin Pelcha, Shannon Meyer, and Linda Gilliam: food service office - Narcissa Casteel; Sub - Francis Barger.

Board of Ed recognizes a sub and aide from LCE for AwardMr. Miller had similar praise for Mrs. Conrad and Mrs. Wiltshire noting that Mr. Roach often speaks highly of both for their dedication and commitment to students and the school.

The two women are resolute in their unwavering support of Locust Corner through the PTO, Mr. Roach said. Their support goes beyond volunteering, however. They have both filled in as substitutes in a couple of key locations this school year.

Mrs. Wiltshire took on the task to serve as the substitute teacher in the Social Communications classroom. It was a new classroom for LCE and she did an outstanding job in leading the school in its effort to get it up and running, Mr. Roach said.

Similarly, at the beginning of the school year, Mrs. Conrad took on the task of serving as the school’s long-term sub in the health clinic.

You can just imagine how challenging it is to open a new classroom or serve as the long-term sub in the health clinic in a typical school year, Mr. Roach said. Doing this in the middle of a pandemic presented even bigger challenges and Mrs. Conrad and Mrs. Wiltshire went above and beyond in everything they did.
