NREVSD names new high school principal, assistant principal

The New Richmond Exempted Village School District is excited to announce the hiring of a principal and assistant principal for New Richmond High School.

Joining our high school team as principal is Joseph Stewart. Joining the team as assistant principal is Lawrence Kozlowski. The Board of Education approved both hires during its special meeting on July 8.

Interviews were conducted earlier this week by students, parents, and members of our high school and district faculty and staff.

“Everyone did a great job during the interview process in their efforts to find a principal and assistant principal that will bring value to our high school,” Superintendent Tracey Miller said. “Mr. Stewart and Mr. Kozlowski have impressive credentials and resumes filled with rich experiences that make them ideal hires for our high school. They were both clear favorites of our interview teams, and we are thrilled that they agreed to join us.

“They bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our district that will benefit our high school students, faculty, and staff in the years to come.”

Mr. Stewart, who has nearly 20 years of experience as an educator, comes to New Richmond from Cincinnati Public School District’s Walnut Hills High School where he currently serves as the vice principal/director of curriculum and instruction. His responsibilities include: creating a master schedule with over 600 sections for 149 teaching faculty, supervising the special education and social studies department, and overseeing all aspects of the senior class.

His passion, he says, is curriculum and instruction which he emphasized during the interview process and in his letter of interest.

“During my time at Walnut, I have made it my goal to improve an already outstanding Advanced Placement program,” he wrote in his letter of interest. He implemented changes that increased AP participation and academic outcomes for AP students.

Mr. Stewart further noted during interviews and in his letter of interest that he is a strong advocate for mental health support for students.

Mr. Kozlowski, who also has about two decades of experience as an educator, comes to New Richmond from Middletown Community School’s Middletown High School where he currently serves as an assistant principal. His duties include: staff evaluations, assisting the athletic director, discipline for students, assisting with building budgeting, and site management for events.

During the interviews, Mr. Kozloweski shared his passion for education and the importance of a strong academic program that includes robust extracurricular/co-curricular opportunities.

Both will officially join the district on Aug. 1 for the 2021-2022 school year.
