Students share thoughts about 8th Grade Field Trip to Village

Students outside of historic home in village of new richmondIn early May, New Richmond Middle School eighth-graders participated in their second field trip in as many years to the Village of New Richmond to learn about the role the village played in the Underground Railroad.

The field trip, a local history lesson, was made possible thanks to a partnership between the New Richmond Exempted Village School District, Historic New Richmond, the district’s Business Advisory Committee, and local businesses.

The idea for the trip was conceived by the Business Advisory Committee. During a recent committee meeting, New Richmond Middle School Social Studies Teacher Adam Moler presented feedback shared by students following the field trip.

According to Mr. Moler’s data, 151 students participated in the field trip. Of those, 61 filled out the post-field trip survey. Students surveyed said the field trip was:

“I thought it was really fun, although I wish we could have been more hands-on.”

“It was a great learning experience and all connected with what we were learning about.”

“I felt that the field trip was very informative and was a great learning experience. The representatives went into great depth and explained very well. Overall, I had a good time but there is always room for improvement, wish we had more time to travel to more places.”

The committee members will use the student comments along with their own observations and experiences in their ongoing effort to make the field trip even more meaningful and fun.
