During its meeting on April 19, the New Richmond Board of Education approved Kyle Seibert as principal of the New Richmond Schools Fifth Quarter (summer school).

The Board also approved the hiring of the necessary summer school teachers and staff.

In March, Superintendent Tracey Miller first mentioned the summer school option as a way of countering the loss of learning some students have experienced during the coronavirus pandemic. Funding is being provided to school districts by the state to help get students caught up. New Richmond’s estimated $150,000 summer school cost will be paid for from Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds (ESSER III).

Plans are still being finalized and have changed slightly from what was presented in March. Instead of four days per week, classes will be held five days per week. This change will make it possible for students to finish summer school before the July 4th holiday.

Early planning indicates that several hundred students will be invited to participate. The summer school sessions will be held at the middle school and high school campuses from 8 a.m. to noon June 7 through July 2. Transportation and meal service will be provided.
