MIddle School students holding socksNew Richmond Middle School students are celebrating a milestone in what has become an annual community service project.

For what some believe is the fifth consecutive year, NRMS Student Council led by teachers Tracey Dick and Sarah Stapleton, is sponsoring Socktober. Between Oct. 5 and Oct. 29, students will collect new socks in all sizes, colors, and patterns.

The purpose of Socktober is to involve the students in a project that gives back to the community in which they live, according to NRMS teacher Sarah Stapleton.

In a letter announcing the project, Student Council members shared this message: “Even the smallest acts of love, like donating a new pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors. Help us by bringing in a new pair of socks to donate to local families.”

In addition to helping members of their own community, NRMS students are also competing against one another. During Socktober, each grade level homeroom that brings in the most pairs of new socks wins a donut party.

All collected socks are donated locally to benefit families living in the New Richmond Schools community, Ms. Stapleton said.
