Nov. 17, 2020

Dear New Richmond Schools Families,

More than once this school year I’ve said that we will continue offering in-person learning for as long as we can. Thanks to the hard work and commitment of many, we have been able to maintain the in-person learning model well into the second quarter of this school year.

We’ve had a good run, but things are changing. The impact of the pandemic is now being felt in our schools and throughout our state.

Due to the surge of students and staff being placed in quarantine and some positive COVID-19 cases in our schools, New Richmond Exempted Village School District will begin full remote learning starting Monday, November 23rd. We will use the remote learning plan we used on Election Day. The plan is to return to in-person learning on Monday, December 7th.

Also, all extra-curricular activities will be on hold starting Monday, November 23rd. Activities will resume on Monday, December 7th. Our goal is to have a complete season. Taking a two-week hiatus gives us the best chance to accomplish this.

By taking these steps now, we hope to see a reduction in the number of positive COVID-19 cases in our students and a correlating reduction in the number of individuals placed in quarantine.

During remote learning, our cafeteria staff will prepare food for our students which will be broadly distributed by our bus drivers. We hope to be able to share the distribution plans with all of you by Wednesday.

Just as a reminder, we are able to provide Internet Wi-Fi Hotspots to families and students who need connectivity at home for remote instruction. Please contact your child’s school for more information.

The change to remote learning will have no impact on our school calendar. The Thanksgiving holiday will be observed on November 25th through the 27th.

As a follow-up to this email, I plan to stream a live message on our NREVSD Facebook page beginning at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 18th. I will not be responding to live questions but plan to share any additional details I might have at that time. If you can not catch the live stream, the post will remain active on our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/NREVSD

Students learn best in school. But the growing number of COVID-19 cases requires that we take action. If you have questions, please contact your building principal.

Regards,

Tracey Miller
