Message from Superintendent Miller

A message from Superintendent Miller regarding delayed start Wednesdays.

New Richmond Exempted
Village School District

Dear NREVSD families,

As you are no doubt aware,  the ongoing pandemic is continuing to impact our school day in many ways. One difference that is having an unexpected consequence within our schools is the change in our morning routines. With students now reporting directly to their homeroom/first bell teacher instead of being held in the cafeteria for the start of school, our teachers and staff are losing time previously used for meetings and professional development.

In an effort to make up for some of this lost time, beginning October 7, all New Richmond Exempted Village School District schools, including Lions Online, will operate on a one-hour delay for students every Wednesday for the remainder of the school year.

The delayed start will provide our in-district students with one hour of additional sleep every Wednesday. Our teachers and staff will report at their usual time to participate in Working Wednesdays, a one hour period of time set aside weekly for teacher/staff professional development and meetings.

The buses will still provide transportation to school on Working Wednesdays but will operate on a one-hour delay. Parents who are unable to arrange for child care during the one-hour delayed starts can drop off their students at their school’s usual start time. Our paraprofessionals will provide supervision.

Grant Students (Updated)

This delay does not impact our Grant Career Center students. After further discussions with Grant administrators, we have agreed that all students who attend the Grant Career Center need to arrive on schedule for the start of the Grant school day. The completion of lab hours is a critical part of the Grant experience. Transportation will be provided for our Grant students who ride buses.

Students riding the Grant buses will receive information from their bus driver about the Wednesday Grant collector buses.

Students who attend classes away from NREVSD

The delay does not impact students who are transported to schools outside of the district. These students will be picked up at their regularly scheduled time.

The new Wednesday schedule is effective Oct. 7. If you have specific questions, please contact your child's building principal.

Sincerely,

Tracey Miller
