This week’s #WeAreNR shines the spotlight on Mr. Stewart who is one of the newest members of our NREVSD team. His enthusiasm and passion for education are abundantly obvious in all that he does.
Name: Joseph Stewart, Principal, New Richmond High School
Hometown: Born in Glasgow, Scotland; grew up in Port Charlotte, Florida, where he lived for over 30 years.
High School/College: Graduate of Port Charlotte High School in Port Charlotte, Florida / Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky.
Family: He is the youngest of four children in his family, two older sisters and one older brother. Mr. Stewart is the father of 8-year-old twins - Isla and Declan.
Hobbies: Soccer (playing and watching), reading, and spending time with his twins.
Would you rather have the gift of invisibility or have a super strength? If you chose a super strength, what would it be? I think the ability to read people’s minds, especially in this job, would be a useful tool.
What is your favorite book/movie/song?
Movie: “The Sting”
Book: “Paddy’s Lament” - It’s kind of a sad book that takes a historical look at the plight of the Irish people during the Great Potato Famine. I’m a history guy. It’s something I’m passionate about.
Song: Anything by The Beatles - but especially “Eleanor Rigby.”
What is your favorite thing about working at NREVSD? The people that I’ve met. The students, the parents, the staff here have been phenomenal. I can’t say enough good things about the staff. They’ve welcomed me and Larry (Kozlowski - Assistant Principal) with open arms. And they’ve been willing to take our suggestions on and bring new ideas to the table and it’s been such a collaborative experience.
