Two members of the New Richmond Middle School community with integral roles in Project Lunchbox earned April’s Beth Webster Leading Lion award.

“It’s always great to recognize one person, to have two to recognize for a similar thing is awesome,” New Richmond Middle School principal Court Lilly said.

Kylie Boyer, a sixth-grade student at NRMS, earned the award for her standout efforts in and out of the classroom.

“Kylie’s an awesome student,” Lilly said. “She has A’s and A+’s in everything. She’s even challenged herself, she’s in an advanced math class as a sixth-grade student and she’s had an A+ in that class as well.”

After school, Boyer continues her involvement by being a member of student council and a handful of other extracurricular activities.

“She’s involved in band and choir, she’s a busy kid, but upon entering the middle school she got involved in student council and in about December she started helping Ms. Stapleton with Project Lunchbox,” Lilly said. “After she got involved, she started volunteering her time outside of student council to help Ms. Stapleton get things together.”

Project Lunchbox began seven years ago. Sarah Stapleton took the program over five years ago and is currently leading the initiative that feeds 146 families each week.

“[Sarah has] been involved since day one,” Lilly said. “I don’t know if people notice everything she gets involved in. She’s at everything, she’s at sporting events, choir events, band events. She’s at Saturday track meets when she doesn’t have to be. I see her at this building getting stuff out for Project Lunchbox. There’s a tremendous amount of work that she does.”

Lilly closed by praising both Boyer and Ms. Stapleton for their contributions to the New Richmond community.

“Two amazing candidates,” Lilly said. “Easy candidates to recommend for the Beth Webster Leading Lion award. I know that award is special to Sarah, being as close to Beth as she was. I’m happy to give it to both of them.”
