NRE is Home to VFW Essay Contest Finalist

The Patriot's Pen is a nationwide essay contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, for students in grades 6-8.  Students are asked to write a 400 word essay on a patriotic theme.  This year's theme was:  "America's Gift to My Generation."

Students write their essay and then submit this essay to their local VFW post.  Essays are judged at three different levels:  local, district, and state department.  A student must place first at each level in order to advance.  The top three essays in the state of Ohio are selected to be read at the VFW Midwinter Banquet where the first place winner will be announced.  The first place winner receives $500 and an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to compete at the national level.

This year, over 3,000 students across Ohio entered the competition, and one of our students here at NRE has been selected as one of the top three state finalists.

Sixth grader, Brock Lindner, will be sharing his essay at the upcoming VFW Midwinter Banquet.  On behalf of everyone at New Richmond Elementary and the NREVSD, we want to congratulate Brock on this incredible achievement!
