The New Richmond Exempted Village School District supports New Richmond’s Bicentennial which will hold its Big Bash celebration Sept. 19-21.
The Big Bash celebration will feature performances by the New Richmond High School Troubadours (5 p.m. Saturday), the New Richmond High School Concert Band (6 p.m. Saturday) and events sponsored by the New Richmond Schools Education Foundation and the Leonard D. Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The NREF is sponsoring Tom Sawyerville in old Susanna (Saturday only) featuring Kid’s Games, Petting Zoo, Orsanco Ohio River Fish Aquarium, Living History Characters, Artisan Demonstrations and highlighted by a performance of Tom Sawyer The Musical at 11:30 a.m. Saturday and 4 p.m. Sunday at Curly’s BBQ Pavilion. Tom Sawyer The Musical is directed by Locust Corner Elementary teacher Paige McConnell and features a cast of New Richmond district students.
The Education Foundation also is sponsoring a pumpkin chuck and distance-throwing contest on the banks of the Ohio River from noon to 5:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 with teams launching 10-pound pumpkins at a 15-degree angle down river in a competition to determine who has engineered the best-performing trebuchet (catapult).
The Leonard D. Gibson Memorial Scholarship Fund is sponsoring a beard contest Saturday afternoon at Hausermann Park on Front Street (across the street from Green Kayak Market). Pre-registration is at the Leonard D. Gibson Memorial Scholarship Booth (http://www.gibsonscholar.com/). Entry fee is a minimum $5 donation to the Scholarship Fund, which benefits New Richmond high school seniors.
The scholarship fund will be selling copies of Mr. Leonard's album on CD will be giving out Frozen-themed cupcakes in return for a donation.
