NRHS Students Participate in ACT Torch Prep Program

Over the past two days, nearly 50 juniors from New Richmond High School have been participating in the ACT Prep Program, Torch Prep. The focus of Torch Prep is to, “build a culture and an experience that fits the paradigm of a teenager, compelling them to care”. Operating from this framework, the Torch Prep trainers work diligently to build rapport, relationships, energy, and high expectations, which result in soaring scores and confidence when it comes to taking the ACT.

Throughout the course of this two day blitz, students have been instructed, entertained, and provoked. It is with clear instruction and tons of energy that participating students have been pushed to develop an innovative, creative, and strategic approach to tackling the ACT.

With a school full of students having hopes, dreams, and ambitions for a brighter future, the ACT should not be a liability, but rather an asset. By creating an atmosphere that breaks the stigma that you are defined  by a number, students are able to to get excited about their learning and reach their fullest testing potential.

“My hope is that our students who participated in Torch Prep will utilize the research-based strategies taught to improve their ACT scores when all juniors take the ACT on March 20th,” stated NRHS Principal, Mr. Mark Bailey. “The ACT is not a test of intelligence, therefore students CAN improve their scores if they understand the test, as well as the time constraints of the ACT.”

Beyond the Torch Prep program, for the past three years, NRHS students have had the opportunity to take advantage of a six week ACT Prep Class on Saturdays for fall and spring testing dates. These Saturday sessions are led by NRHS teachers in two, three hour sessions.
