NRHS students urged to take ACT Prep class

New Richmond High School is offering two ACT Prep courses for New Richmond students during the 2014-2015 school year beginning with the Fall class to be held from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays Oct. 25 through Dec. 6. Cost is $55 and participating students will receive a copy of The Real ACT Prep Guide.

“Instead of offering just a semester long class during the day, we’ve decided to hold fall and spring sessions that will end the week before the date most students take scheduled ACT exams,” said NRHS principal Mark Bailey. “We’ll be offering a second Saturday session in the spring.”

The ACT Prep Classes will be split into specific areas for science, English and math on the following schedule:

•           SCIENCE      Taught by Mr. Pat Crowley in Room 201 on October 25th and November 15th

•           ENGLISH     Taught by Mrs. Nicole Parker in Room 205 on November 1st and November 22nd

•           MATH          Taught by Mr. Rylan Shebesta in Room 305 on November 8th and December 6th

“We are encouraging sophomores to take these ACT Prep classes now and take the ACT tests early because some students have difficulty with tests and they will be competing for college scholarships with students from other schools who take the ACT multiple times,” said Bailey. “Junior and seniors who have already taken ACT tests should consider taking these classes to improve on their scores.”

The deadline date to reserve a seat in the ACT classes is October 17.  Students should make checks payable to NRHS and register with Mrs. Julie Fetchak in the guidance office.

New Richmond’s average ACT score and improved to 22 (from 21) in the past two school years.

“We want to see it improve to 23.5 in the next couple years,” said Bailey.

Madeira High School has the highest ACT average in Greater Cincinnati with a 26 according to Cincinnati Magazine’s School Guide.
