Four to join Lions Hall of Fame
New Richmond High School’s first Division I college players in football and basketball will join two of the school’s all-time greats in softball and swimming in the 2016 class of the New Richmond Lions Sports Hall of Fame. Thomas Wildey, 1959 graduate who played football at Ohio State; Jeffrey Kuhn, 1962 graduate who played basketball at the University of Cincinnati; Michelle Sweet, 2009 graduate who was a three-sport star in soccer, basketball and softball; and Alex Lewis, 2010 graduate who owns 11 school and league swimming records, will go into the Lions Hall of Fame at the annual induction banquet at 6 p.m. on Jan. 16 in the high school cafeteria.

Hall of Fame nominations due Dec. 19

Nominations for the New Richmond Lions Sports Hall of Fame are being accepted through Dec. 19. The Hall of Fame inductions will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14 following the 4 p.m. Hall of Fame basketball game against Seven Hills. Anyone wishing to make one or several nominations may obtain nomination forms in the New Richmond High School Athletic Director’s Office or download the form at http://www.nrschools.org/Downloads/nr-hall-nomination.pdf.

 
School Board adopts drug testing policy
The Board of Education of the New Richmond Exempted Village School District at its August 17 meeting approved a random drug testing policy for New Richmond High School athletes and students involved in extra-curricular activities. Students in grades 9-12 who participate in athletics, students who participate in extra-curricular activities, students possessing District parking privileges, and students who volunteer will be required to submit to random drug tests administered by a third-party laboratory. Tom Wessner picked to coach Lady Lions
Pending school board approval, 13-year coaching veteran Tom Wessner has been selected to coach the New Richmond High School Lady Lions basketball team. Wessner, who was picked by a school committee to fill a social studies vacancy, comes to New Richmond from White Oak High School where most recently the boys varsity basketball coach. He was introduced to the Lady Lions on June 9 by NRHS athletic director Doug Foote.

 
NRHS Basketball Camp is June 29-July 2

New Richmond High School boys varsity basketball coach Brian McMonigle and  Lady Lions varsity coach Tom Wessner and the boys and girls basketball staffs will hold their 6th annual New Richmond High School Boys and Girls Basketball Camp for students entering grades K-8 from June 29 to July 2 at the high school gym. Cost of the camp is $30 per camper for the entire week for preregistrations ($40 registration at the door Monday morning). The Camp brochure and application form is available online at this link:

NRHS hosts SBAAC girls tournament Saturday
New Richmond High School will host the 2015 Southern Buckeye Conference girls basketball tournament Saturday, Feb. 14 with six games beginning at 10 a.m. The NRHS Lady Lions will play at 2:30 p.m. against Bethel. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for students good for all games. 
Madeira game rescheduled for Jan. 13
The Girls Basketball game vs Madeira originally scheduled for Jan. 12th has been moved to Jan. 13th at 6/7:30 p.m. at NR. 
Eight Lions make college commitments
Eight New Richmond High School senior athletes signed or made commitments this spring to continue their athletic careers at the college level. They are  Hunter Blankenship, Spalding University in soccer; Hannah Hall, Denison University in track; Levi Simpson, Marietta College in baseball... 
NRHS honors its basketball champions
New Richmond High School honored its 2014 Southern Buckeye Conference American Division champion boys and girls basketball teams at a Feb. 14 pep rally. It marked the first time since 1975 that both girls and boys won league titles. 
NRHS honors Josie Buckingham
New Richmond High School honored senior basketball player Josie Buckingham on Senior Night Feb. 12. Buckingham, who will attend the University of Minnesota, in the top scorer (1432 points), rebounder (1004) and shot blocker (440) in school history. 
NR family connected by championships
If you attend a Stacy family reunion in New Richmond you can expect the talk to get around to Lady Lions basketball and championships. Sisters Bailey and Bergen Workman were in uniform when the Lady Lions won 2014 Southern Buckeye American Division and overall championships, and their mother, Lisa Stacy Workman, and aunt Lana Stacy Gilday, were on the previous Lady Lions championship team in 1984. 
Lady Lions win SBAAC Championship
Coach Brad Hatfield's SBAAC American Division champion Lady Lions, who wrapped up New Richmond's first girls basketball title in 30 years last week with their 66-48 win over Amelia, added the league overall championship with a 47-44 win over SBAAC National Division champion Georgetown Lady G-Men Saturday, Feb. 8. 
Monday's basketball game rescheduled
Monday's home girls basketball game against Georgetown has been cancelled and rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 5. 
Josie Buckingham Signs with Minnesota
New Richmond High School senior Josie Buckingham signed her national letter of intent with the University of Minnesota Nov. 13. She was joined in the ceremony by her parents Liz Misheff and Charles Buckingham and NRHS coaches Brad Hatfield and Laren Wilkins... 
Buckingham breaks scoring records
Josie Buckingham set girls basketball and school scoring records with 42 points in New Richmond's 68-42 win over Bethel-Tate in Thursday's Division II sectional tournament at Withrow High School. 
Buckingham takes command for Lions
NEW RICHMOND — New Richmond junior center Josie Buckingham is accustomed to being double and triple-teamed and having opposing defenses collapse on her for 32 minutes. But after scoring just two points in the first quarter, Buckingham scored 12 of her 35 points in the third quarter and finished with 18 rebounds and nine blocks, leading the Lions to a 56-51 upset victory over Western Brown, the third-ranked team in the Enquirer Divisions II-IV coaches’ poll.
 
Buckingham commits to Minnesota
New Richmond junior center Josie Buckingham will become a Golden Gopher after graduation in 2014. “I committed to the University of Minnesota today,” Buckingham said Jan. 2 after leading the Lady Lions to a 56-19 win over Roger Bacon.

Another ball for Josie
Lady Lions coach Brad Hatfield presents senior Josie Buckingham with another game ball for another milestone in NRHS basketball history. The ball was used in the last home game during which Josie recorded her 1000th rebound. Josie will finish her high school career as New Richmond's all-time leader in points scored, rebounds and blocked shots along with the single game scoring record of 42 points.
